Thumbnail can be generated from a bitmap (.BMP) or a JPEG (*.JPG) or even a EMF (Encapsulated Meta File).

When thumbnails are created and embedded into your PDF files, you will see the thumbnails displayed on the left column of your PDF Reader or Viewer (usually Adobe Reader).

With this freeware utility, you can decide whether to show thumbnails when PDF file is opened.

PDFThumbnail Generator In Use

I found the program easy to use, no installation necessary, makes it very practical and portable. Unfortunately was not exactly what I was looking for, I required a programme for producing thumbnails of PDF files for use on an internet site, and not a program that produced the thumbnails within a PDF document.As of yet I am not sure where this program could be best applied, should I find a need for it in my current projects I will be sure to let you know. Thanks
